It's a bit like a Yellow Pages, but before anyone had telephones - a list of businesses and heads of household in a town/district.

Hi Anita, some are. It just depends if you're lucky with the year/area you're looking for. Try typing kellys directory into google and see what comes up. Good luck Christine

Anita. Try the following website: www.historicaldirectories.org. This site gives a number of Kellys and other Directories but not all are on here so you may or may not be lucky. You will only find Kellys and other trade directories in your local main reference library for that region only so if you are looking at a library in Bath then the directories you will find will be for the Bath area and not Swindon. The most complete set of these directories for the whole country is at the Guildhall Library in London so if you live near London this is fine. If not and you cannot find what you want online then the only other solution is to go to the nearest reference library of the place youi are interested in. Pigots Directories are sometimes on line and these were earlier trade directories to Kellys. You could try putting Pigots + name of place of interest into a google search. There are also a few other names of these directories in different areas but Kellys is the main trade directory to investigate when a business/trade started and finished. There is also a section of private residents within the book which may or may not help you. These Directories only exist to about the early 1970's and not beyond that. Janet
