Trying to find out some details about my grand parents on my father's side (who died in 1958 so cannot ask him). My mother says she forgets as she and my father separated when I was 3 (then I was adopted)!! My father's parents were called Mary Scott Steele and John Dick. They lived at 9 Thomas Street, Burton-on-Trent in 1921 (my father was born 5.9.21), and that is all I have on them at this time. Do not know where they were born or what! Can anyone help please? Thanks Denise

Denise Here are some things you can do. Find Mary and John's marriage certificate by looking in the GRO index. This will give you both their fathers' names. You can then look for both sides of the family in the 1901 census. This may give you Mary and John's mothers names and possible siblings to help you go back. Once you are past 1900, there are lots of resources to help online, including FreeBMD which although not complete does have a lot of births, marriages and deaths indexes. Also www.family.org has a lot of transcribed info from parish registers, mainly baptisms and marriages, but occasionally a death as well. More tips will be found by clicking on the Resource Centre bar underneath Features in the left-hand menu on this page. Choose "Getting Started" on the Resource Centre home page and have a read. Please ask if you want more help. Happy hunting, Helen

Thanks for that Helen - not sure if they married but will certainly look into it. Denise
