Yeah, there is that as I was stuck on Walkers now! It also goes to show that just because all the kids have the same mum (Ellen) it is worth checking all certificates, as they may not be the same one! It took me ages to find my gt grandfathers birth cert. I just went along with the info on his brothers! Thanks for the help!

Sarah At least you've found out now, before you go back any further, and you've got the right female line to pursue. Also Hessey is an easier name to track down than Walker! Helen

Yes that is the marriage that I have the certificate for, but the 1871 one fits as one of the other children was born in Bucks. So I guess I need to trace a death for the 1st one!. Gutted as I had done well on tracing the Walkers and now it looks like relative by marriage only! S

Sarah Is this the first marriage? ELLEN WALKER Female Family Marriages: Spouse: GEORGE READ Family Marriage: 18 NOV 1867 Saint Peters, Stepney, London, England Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date. Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: M042681 1840 - 1875 0580883 Film 6903617 This is from www.familysearch.org (LDS site, info from parish records). Assuming this is right, you can look for a death for an Ellen Read 1867-71. Helen

Confused!! My gt grandfather was born in 1886. On his birth certificate, it says:Father- George Edward Read. Mother - Ellen Read, formerly Hessey. OK. But on his parents (George and Ellen) marriage certificate it says: Groom - George Edward Read (Batchelor). Bride - Ellen Walker (spinster). Help! Do you think Ellen Walker was a first wife and George remarried? What are the chances of two marriages to Ellens, in 19yrs? My gt granfatehr was the last of 12 kids. Sarah
