Can anyone shed light on the above. It is mentioned on a baptism found on the IGI for Scotland. Jane

I don't pretend to understand completely but it seems that there were various breakaway churches from the church of Scotland because of arguments over who should appoint ministers. Two of these were the Secession church and the Relief church, which in 1847 united to become the United Presbyterian Church. Judith
