I don't know if I am doing something wrong but when I click on the name it takes me to a pay screen which when I click on it says I have to pay $99.95. Am I on the wrong site. I am on www.ancestry.com And there is no sign of a register/log in tab

Found that by looking for Brewerton ancestry let me in. But none of my Brewertons are on either 1971 or 91 though I have 4 on 1881 and one on 1901!!! They were born in Wales so easy to pick out. Still, an excellent suggestion. Many thanks Jeanie

Nudging this up as theyve made more improvements for guest members! - you can now find out who else lives with the person your searching for (this is only available on 1871 and 1901). Karen

Hi Karen, thank you very much for posting that! I have been having a great time searching the indexes! (All listed here: http://www.ancestry[.]com/search/rectype/default.aspx?rt=35) I had to login - registration is free - for it to work though. Thanks again, Lynne

Cheers - got there in the end. It looks as though it only works from the specific census search screen. Many thanks Simon

Hi Simon Sorry for delay in replying. Search just by putting the name in and the sex of the person your searching for and then click on Search. It will then bring up everyone with that name, it will list their age, the county they were born in and also the county they live in. If you then click on the persons name you want more info on, it will take you to the screen saying you need to pay. Hope this helps. Karen

How does the listing of names for census searches work ? I still just get number of results with the padlock next to it ? Simon

Karen, Do they still only take credit cards as a method of payment or can you now use debit cards? Allie

Hiya Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but I havent used Ancestry for awhile and I have just noticed that they now offer pay per view - you pay £6 (not sure if this includes VAT) and that is valid for 7 days to access 20 screens, which I think works out cheaper than 1901 census site, although I dont think Ancestry is complete for 1901. They have also changed theyre search screen - you can find out more details on the census search even if you dont pay - it now lists everyone for that name, their age, the county they were born in, also the county they live in plus the RG number - all you have to do is search by the persons name, when you see them on the list click their name, it will then take you to a screen relevant to that person, at the bottom it will list the RG number and page number. On the 1871 and 1901 census there will be near the top an option to view other family members, if you click that it will bring up a list of them - the only thing you wont be able to see without paying is the town they live in and the relationship to head.
