CAN ANYONE FIND THE DEATH OF ONE OF MY GREAT AUNTS? I BELIEVE SHE MAY HAVE DIED AT A YOUNG AGE, AS THIS LADY WAS NOT KNOWN TO MY PARENTS UNTIL CONTACT WITH A DISTANT RELLIE ON HERE REVEALED HER EXISTENCE. SHE WAS BORN: EDITH BOWLES (TWIN OF KATE) DEC 1897 GREENWICH GTR LONDON VOL 1d PAGE 1120 I CAN FIND NOTHING ELSE ON HER. EXCEPT SHE WAS LISTED IN THE 1901 CENSUS OF GREENWICH AGED 3. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY LEADS - THANKS FOLKS.

There is an Edith Jane in 1902 in Dartford registration district, - shown on freebmd as 8 years old. She doesn't quite match your information but might be worth investigating.

Anita FreeBMD does not yet extend very far into the 20th century and it is barely covered by the IGI either. So finding a death later means looking through the GRO indexes, either in the books at the Family Record Centre, or on microfiche in a library/history centre, or online at 1837online which will cost a lot. As you don't know when this relative died, or what her name was when she died (she may have married, divorced or widowed and been remarried for example) and you don't know where she died, this seems to be a mammoth task. I would try to narrow it down first. Without access yet to the 1911 census I think the next logical step if you have no relatives who can give you any further clues, is to assume that if she did marry it would be when she was arround 18-30 and check the relevant dates for a marriage. Thanks for the replies - especially to Gina, who has pointed me in the direction of a link in BMD that I had not worked out before - that's the lead I shall be following, as I am certain she died before adulthood, I knew my other great aunts, but neither of my parents ever knew of her, and we have never heard her name mentioned, so unless she was banished from the family for some reason, I think this is the most likely option.
