hi there, i am trying to trace my grandfather cyril poultney,s family he was born 13/11/1904, i dont know where, he was put in an orphanage in clent nr stourbridge west mids and adopted by a couple who lived in hagley nr stourbridge, i have no idea of his real or adopted parents names and none of my limited info shows up on any searches i doi am new to this and the computer and dont understand some of the terms people use (threads what are these) please could anybody help me i would be really grateful as my family have given me all the info they can thanks chris. |

Can help you with what is a thread.. You started a thread by starting this topic! As for your Grandad you need to find his birth certificate. Is his name the same as he was registered? I have had a look on freebmd but I couldn't see a Cyril Poultney listed, freebmd isn't complete though. You can check the St Catherines index at a library/records office to see if you could find him there. |

hi thanks for your help i havent any b/m/d certificates for my grandad but he did have a brother (name i dont know) and a sister hilda who emigrated to novia scotia , there was talk that my grandfathers real dad emigrated to canada but how true this is i dont know he might have been called ben but i cant reley on that i think i need to get cyrils birth cert could you advise me on the best way(maybe not on computer) i go on these sites but dont seem to get anywhere! thanks again chris |

Christine You know your grandfather's exact date of birth, which is a start. imagine as he was placed in an orphanage near Stourbridge he would have been born nearby. had a look on FreeBMD for births registered in the December quarter of 1904 (where you would expect to find a November birth) for registration district Stourbridge 6c. There are 20 Cyrils (1st or 2nd name). Of course, that may not be the name he was registered as. Do you know if he was brought up in the church of England - if so you may find his baptism in the parish registers. |

hi there thanks again for your help i dont know if he was bought up c of e i really dont know much about him but he died very young on 13/11/1950 on his 46th bday thanks chris |
