Thanks Joan and Judith Iv checked the birth of one of her other sons and thats the same......no father the others are b4 1837 so im into parish records but cant find anything there either looks like iv come to a dead end Christine

As Maz said, maiden names weren't on death certs. but my gt gt grandmother's 1879 death certificate showed her as "widow of Thomas Eldridge tailor" under the occupation heading. If your lady really was a widow you might find something similar? Judith

I think if I were in your position I would look at the birth and marriage registration of all four of her children......something may turn up. Also, in the 1841 census, search up and down the street a bit...a lot of mine had rellies living near. And, what happens if you assume her name , as in 1841, is her maiden name....just possible I suppose. Good hunting. Joan

Sorry Christine, maiden names were not on English/Welsh death certs at that time. Would probably be on a Scottish one though. Maz. XX

will the maiden name of my gt gt gt grandmother be on her death certificate she died abt 1860, she had 4 sons one of whom is my gt gt grandfather but on his birth/marriage certificate there is no fathers name and there is no maiden name on for her either so im thinking she never got married on the 1841 census she is down as a widow but has had 2 children after 1841.........skeleton in the cupboard i think! HELP Christine
