Donald I believe the National Archives site has a facility to do this. Good Luck. Sarah.

http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/wills.asp is the address for the wills available on National Archives - useful if you are looking for early wills, 1850s and earlier Judith

Hi Judith, The one that I am looking for is 1862 so probably explains why I'm not getting anywhere! Many thanks for all your help. It's very much appreciated. Jackie

If the date of the will you are looking for is after 1858 you can look up the summary of probate of ALL wills in the annual 'calendars'. These can be found at most county record offices (archives). When you find the one you want it can be bought from the York Probate office for £5. (can't find the address offhand- sorry) Before 1858 is much more difficult unless you find it on the site Judith mentions. Local record offices usually have wills local to them I think. Anne
