Is 1841 the earlist census with household info

I know that census were undertaken years earlier than 1841 but were more of a head count rather than providing info of each household. What is the earliest census date where household information can be obtained.

I believe that 1841 is the first one with any data useful for tracing ancestors.

There you go. . . . 1801. 10th. March.(Tuesday) 1811. 27th. May. (Monday) 1821. 28th. May .(Monday) 1831. 30th. May. ( Monday) 1841. 6th. June. ( Sunday ) 1851 30th. March ( Sunday ) 1861. 7th. April. ( Sunday ) 1871. 2nd. April. ( Sunday ) 1881. 3rd. April. (Sunday ) 1891. 5th. April. ( Sunday ) 1901. 1st April. ( Monday ) But remember the 1841. Census. The ages were rounded up to the nearest 5 YEARS

I believe that prior to 1841 only a headcount was taken, and that many previous censuses no longer exist. Helen

Mike, the ages were rounded down for people over 15(ie someone 18 would be 15, 43 would be 40). Some enumerators ignored the instruction and put exact ages. Also only one forname was recorded and also place of birth was given as in this county or not.Another important point is that the 41 did not state relationships so wrong assumtions can be made. In some of the earlier censuses the households were listed in some areas. Bob
