I've just noticed that when you click on 'Import/Export Tree' here only the Import option shows on the screen which is probably why you thought you needed to empty your tree. If you scroll down a little you get the Export Tree option. Judith

I think either the Family Search program or the one on the disc would be fine to start you off, if later you find you want other features you can update the Legacy prog or go out and buy something different and again transfer your data using the Gedcom files. Don't confuse Import and Export Tree from this site. What you want to do is EXPORT your tree from GenesReunited to your computer program - for that you don't have to delete anything first. And no you don't have to retype loads of info. You're not being a 'thickie' you're just unsure because you haven't tried it yet, if you get in a muddle you can always uninstall the program and start again! (Which I must admit I've had to do on occasion)

Hi Heather, Try this website as it will explain much better than I can, then all you need to do is to write gedcom in your search bar and search for a free download. hope this helps Len. www.leisterpro.com/doc/Articles/GEDCOM101.html

Many thanks Judith. I did get that magazine but when I put the cd in I got totally confused and also it said certain features were not included. Is the free Family search one useable. Does it have the features I would need or is it better to buy one? Thank you. I have had a look at the Features now and still not sure what you have to do. It says your tree must be empty?? And cant see how the info on GR could be transported with a press of a button? Do I have to retype lots of stuff? Sorry, told you a was a thickie.

Gedcom is the name given to the form in which most family tree computer programs can save data so that it can be transferred fron one program to another. Some of these programs cost money (I use Family Historian which costs about £40 now) some are available for free - you can download one called Personal Ancestral File (PAF5) from the www.familysearch site or the August 'Your Family Tree' magazine comes with a disc including a program called Legacy. Once you have got one of these programms on your computer you will be able to export the data you have on this site to the program. There are fairly clear instruction for this under 'Features' to the left of this screen. Hope this helps Judith

Please help - I am not a techi and having spent hours and hours and days typing in all my details on this site I really do feel it should be in another form so that I can share it with relatives or people researching same names. And possibly on a cd to pass to others. I keep reading about having a GEDCOM. PLEASE what is this, where do I get one, how much are they and how would I export all the info from GReunited onto one please. As I say, not a techi, so words of two syllables please!
