Had a message from someone giving me some info who said that he'd come across someone from NZ researching the same almost unique name. McGilthighnich !!!!! Unfortunately the message board it was on is now defunct so have no idea who they were or how to contact them. Couldn't find much on IGI using rellies unique surname but got a lot more using wife's name, who gave lots of info about the children when and where born, married and died. Looks as though rellies father married again and emigrated to Australia with some of the children, others went to NZ in 1840's. There's no way to checking whether this info is right or not as source isn't known!!! Have only put my tree on here - should I be putting it elsewhere so that those in the southern hemisphere might pick it up and if so how do I do it?

Julie, I think that there are probably a few of us from NZ using GC. I can tell you that there are no entries for that surname in the current Christchurch phone book, anyway. You might like to try a white pages search, or just a general Search with the surname AND New Zealand, Or try the NZ Genealogical society perhaps? I'll keep an eye out on indexes when I next go the the library, but that won't be soon...too much work to do! :-( Good luck. Sue (NZ)

Julie, I knew I had seen that name somewhere before and checked, it was on the Bute data base exchange and the guy who had submitted the info's email address is Bill.McK*@*xtra.*co.nz Don't know if that's the guy you mean or if that is the email you can't contact him onbut hopefully it'll be helpful Christine can't get email address to show so I'll email you it.

Yes I've previously been in touch with Bill and found a Janet on the Bute BDM exchange. He'd listed all the names he'd come across but hadn't any further information as he wasn't researching same names. We have 4 people from the IGI using both the (McGilthighnich or Shaw name) for their marriages in the 1790's in Rothesay appear to have dropped the McGilthighnich and they just called themselves Shaw. Subsequent generations were just called Shaw. So in New Zealand they would be Shaws from Rothesay or Islay.

Have been to the LDS centre today and they have given me the name and address of the submitter in New Zealand so will be contacting her. She must be a relative but would love to know how she got back to the Archibald's name. Had a great morning and really worth going to. Found ellusive rellies birth 1830 so now have to find her parents marriage.
