Robert, I think you could be right but I do not know how to check. I have now emailed Judy. Sue:-)

Sue, sounds like your firewall is blocking internet explorer. I don't use Norton but there should be something like "program control" which decides which programes can and cannot access the net. Check that IE is not blocked first. Spyware/malware tends to redirect, not block, access. Bob

Ok think I sussed part of it. If I disable Norton, it allows access to the net but as soon as Norton is active again you get the message 'server cannot be found'. Everything was working fine with Norton, no conflicts, now hassle. Is it possible that pc has been highjacked? Sue:-)

Sue Re boot simply means switch off, wait a few secs, then re-start. This ensures that settings are returned to the default and any program that you may have started in the bacground will be stopped. This is always the thing to do when all else fails.

Thanks for the reply kim, He did contact his broadband supplier who said that the fault was not with them, not a lot of help, all they could suggest was to re-boot the pc (which means me going over there to do it cause he hasn't got a clue!!). It just seems strange that it was working fine until about a week ago. He has Norton set up so it shouldn't be a virus. Sue:-)

I had to get in touch with technical services of my broad band company as my connection kept going down. Sometimes it i by area if they are working on the cables, but in my case there was a fault in the road withthe actual connection so I would suggest he contacts his broad brand technical services team for advice on how to fix it. Hi, My brother has not been able to get on the net for about a week now. He can get online but just keeps getting 'server cannot be found' message, this happens with every page including his homepage. I know that his server is not down as I am with the same one and he has broadband so should not be dialler probs. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to solve the problem (short of re-booting). Sue:-)
