I find rootschat an easy type of forum to use. I only stumbled across it when I found my second cousin having posted on a board in here and she left a link to it. The way there are separate boards for each county is helpful, and there are boards where you can have a general natter (one called the lighter side) for example. Apart from my second cousin, I found another contact researching the same family name although we haven't established that we're directly related yet. He's also been extremely helpful and I wouldn't have found him if I hadn't checked the boards there. The site is only just a year old so will hopefully get more use in the coming year. I notice some GR members already use it, I spotted Helen 'little Nell' on there. Everyone should have a look! :)

I have just registered with rootschat and immediately (within in minutes of posting a request) I got a lead (fully sourced) that has taken me another generation back into my Spicer history. Took me a while to understand how the site was structured - by region rather than surname. thoroughly recommended Denise

I have had some very helpful info from my reasearch into Lincolnshire, am now trying the Yorkshire side. I agree with Bob about both sites, both very good in their own ways. Love the cross pollination bit!! Will I turn into a Rose instead of a Marguerite!! Margaret

I like the idea of cross-pollination! I certainly think it's worth putting out feelers wherever you can (this insect metaphor is catching on!). Jenny

I am also on RootsChat. It is much more "serious" than GR/GC, i.e. like only "Records Office" and "Tips Board", but no "General Topics"-type humour ! And no general chatting ! There are a lot of helpful people there, as on here, and I have had successes with my requests; some people even going so far as to add census images to their replies ! I have also been "cross-pollinating" - useful links I find there, I post here, and vice versa. So, YES, give it a go, it is well worth it !! p.s. If you have scottish relatives / ancestors, there is also a free discussion forum on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Same comments as with RootsChat. Very helpful, very useful ! Summing up, I am in all three forums (foren ?) and find all of them have plus and minus sides, and I like all of them !

Hi Jenny. I registered with rootschat, but as yet no replies to any info. I've asked for, but is still a new -ish site, so given time could be very useful.

Anyone been on www.rootschat.co.uk. It's a bit like this but has message boards for different subjects and counties. Worth being in both I think and Rootschat is free!! Jenny
