According to Free BMD there is a birth for an Elizabeth Ellen Issac registered at ABERYSTWITH 11b 160 for MARCH 1859.The only drawback being it's in Wales, but it may be worth a try.Hope it helps.

Sorry I've confused you a bit. Her surname was Isaac and her father was Frederick James Isaac (he was a marine store keeper) and her mother Mary Ann Isaac (maiden name Walters). Unfortunately both the census records just say England (I searched for the earlier one for ages hoping it would give me a county but unfortunately not). Margaret

What was her surname at birth - Isaac, Walters or James? And does the census give a county, or does it just say England for place of birth?

Could anyone give me some advice on how to find my great grandmother. Her name was Eliza Isaac (I've tried using Elizabeth) and according to the Scottish census records of 1891 and 1901 she was born in England. She married my great grandfather in Glasgow in 1888 having had two illigitimate daughters by him and went on to have three more children. Judging by the dates shown on the census records, her marriage and death certificates she was born around 1859. At the time of her marriage her mother Mary Ann Walters was deceased but her father Frederick James was alive. I have no idea where she was born although she did visit both Bath and Cardiff. I cannot find a birth certificate for her, a marriage certificate for her parents or a death certificate for her mother. My oldest living relative (who is now in her 90s but remembers her well) told me the she was Jewish and another very old gentleman at one time told my cousin and I that her family came from Germany but I have nothing to prove that this is not just a family story. Can someone point me in the right direction as I seem to be coming to a dead end with everything I try. Thanks
