Don't know if it would help the lady who had all the problems but you can search or have a search done for decree absolutes. About 3 years ago it was £20 for a 10 yr search. (I did it by post). Principal Registry of the Family Division Decree Absolute Searches Family Proceedings Department Room 2.03 First Avenue House 42-49 High Holborn London WC1V 6NP TEL: 020 7947 7016/7017 Switchboard: 020 7947 6000 Fax 020 7947 6995 On my letter dated May 2001 it said "The Principal Registry is open from 10am to 4.30pm on Mondays to Fridays" Probably best check its still there and whats the procedure and also how far back they go.
