Was he in the Army?

Trying to find my grandfather on 1901 census but no luck I know he would have been about 19 in 1901. If he was in the army where can you look to find out. Appreciate any help. Thanks Sue

Someone here on the boards posted this tip, don't know who, but try it and see: Just enter an initial for the first name !! lots of institutions just put A. Smith, B. Jones, etc. so maybe the army did it too. On the other hand, you might just turn up a lunatic asylum, workhouse or prison, so, be prepared ! p.s. this works for 1881 aswell, but freeBMD gives you every name beginning with ... p.p.s.. Found it ! it was "Lost rellies in 1881? Tip that might help you find them!!" from Maggie in Leics, on the Tips Board

Good chance in 1901 he was overseas in Army. Hubby's grand dad was.
