The only Selina I know is known to her friends as "Slinky"....might be unlikely in your relatives case.

My Selina gave me the run around for ages. Sometimes she was Alice Selina and sometimes Selina Alice. Does yours have a middle name? Mine changed her age all the time as well so it was very hard to get her birth cert, But I pinned her down in the end!! Good luck!

Hello, have you tried Salina? My gt grandmother Selina kept the name as it is but my aunt Selina called herself Winifred. I don't know of any shortened versions, apart from Sleen, (which I hate being called). My family suggest Sal and Sel which I have also been called and dislike as well!. Good luck Regards, Selena

Thank you for this thread Janet, and thank you everyone who replied to it. I also have a Selina in my tree - she was born Selina Finch, Married Ernest Ivor Davies, and after his death remarried someone called Smith...and can I find any records??? I managed to find the marriage to Ernest, but I think that's only recently been added to freeBMD 'cos it wasn't there when I started looking, but there's no record of her birth, death or subsequent marriage under any variations of her surname. She doesn't seem to appear on any of the censuses I've looked at...and I'm starting to get the feeling she was just a figment of everyone's imagination :o(

If Selina could be spelt Celina it might be misread as Celine or Celia? Have you tried Slina?

My mother is Selina, she is known as Lena or Sally. My GGrandmother was also Selina and on the various census and the certificates I have she has been, Selina/Seliner/Saliner/Celina I am sure there will be other variations so don't discount any.

My graet grand mother was Selina (Selena) Now I have her on 1891 but I can't find her on 1901. She could have remarried by this time.So what I'm after is all the pet names for Selina. Thanks in anticipation Janet UPDATE Thank you all.I tried Sleina (4) Sal (10) Sel (4) Slena (16) Salina (385) Seliner (1) Celina (223 this is where I found her) I looked through all of them looking for her birthplace Southampton her son James, his birthplace etc I found her (mistranscribed again!!) Celina C Mitchell but looking at the image it was Celina J Mitchell (widowed again) all details fit. Looks like my grandfather had a half sister too. Just goes to show, don't give up!!! (Now to find her on 1881 and her marriage and death!!!)
