Thanks for your help everyone. Am I right in thinking from your replies that I can only save my file (ie excel/word) to a 3.5" floppy disk, not a CD? I haven't got a burner but I have got a CD drive (definitely the D drive). Sorry for souding so dim! Thanks, Jane.

If you have XP you don't need any additional software. You can right click and save to cd/dvd drive. You should go to my computer and establish which drives are which, the d drive is not always the cd you can call it Z if you wish. Bob

Jane: Your "D" drive is used for playing games and music, installing programs; in other words it's a CD "player." In order to burn information to a CD you need to have a CD burner installed on your PC as well as a CD burning program. As for saving infomation onto a floppy disk, this information is saved to your "A" drive.....after inserting a floppy disk into the drive. Judy

Um ... you do have a CD writer I suppose?

Jane If you use a CD copying programme like Easy CD Creator or Nero for instance, it should automatically find the CD drive.

Hi everyone. I have been trying to save some of the information which I currently have on my C drive onto a recordable CD. However, my drive doesn't seem to be reading the CDs at all and keeps saying 'The selected floppy disk drive is not in use. Check to make sure a floppy disk is inserted.' I am selecting the D: drive. I am not very technical but can't see where I am going wrong. Any ideas? Thanks for your help, Jane.
