Adoptive parents

Can you add 'adoptive parents' as well as birth parents, but so they would show up when other members are searching through the names? My dad was 'adopted' in 1915 but we think not officially as his father died in WW1 and he had made a pact with his best friend that they would look after each others families if anything happened to them. We are in touch with all sides of the family - including daughters of his adopted sisters so there would be no problem with their names being in the open, but can I add them anywhere?? Shirley Moth

Hi Shirley, I have the same problem and I've got round it by having an entry for my adoptive side and an entry for my birth side i.e. 2 trees there is no real link but you can put a name in brakets ie. Dave Bland (AKA Paul Bradley) giving myself a ficticious brother - Paul Bradley (AKA Dave Bland) - allows a new line or tree to be started Hope that works for you xx Dave

I've done the same thing, I've got two trees on here (with two separate logins) one for my 'adoptive' family and one for my 'birth' family. Kept them separate so that I didn't get confused and end up having my half-brother married to my mum LOL. Mandy :)

Dave & Mandy, Thanks for your replies. Sorry I think I'm being a bit thick. When you say two different log-ins - have you had to pay twice? Also I was thinking as Dad was always known as his birth surname even though he lived with the Armstrongs, I can't actually add him again, can I? Shirley :-)

Hi Shirley, no you're not thick at all. I have got two logins on GR, both have the same email address but a different password for each; I only pay on one of them because I only use the boards under one name. The second one is just to keep my other tree separate. Hope that makes sense. In answer to your other question, you can add the same person as many times as you like - eg, if someone else was adding one of your relatives, they would have to enter them again so there's nothing to stop you doing the same thing. Don't be afraid to ask! Mandy :)

Thanks Mandy. I'll certainly have a go at that. Shirley
