I was searching for a marriage certificate for an ancestor in Staffs - however the only one I could find was listed as Stoke D - is Stoke D different from Stoke T? any help appreciated Helen

Helen Did you specify Staffordshire in your search? Otherwise Stoke D could be Stoke Damerel. There are 4 plain Stokes and 53 Stoke +something elses in over 20 counties! Which person were you looking for?

Hi Helen I do some transcribing for freebmd and have looked on the program i use to do the transcribing. Stoke D would be Stoke Damarel volume 5b and Stoke T is Stoke upon Trent volume 6b. Hope this helps. Sharon

I was so excited to see a question that I could answer correctly for someone ..... then realised two people had beaten me to it LOL. But I'll say it anyway, it's Stoke Damerel, an area of Devonport near Plymouth. Mandy :)
