Anna, Thanks for the e-mail. another thought: search for "jewish" and "german" aswell. I put some polish sites on both of those threads, too. My grandfather came from Poland, so I shall be searching there, too, soon. Still busy on the English/Scots/Irish branches just now. Another thought: how did he come over ? was he a refugee, ex POW ? There is a web-site "movinghere" for immigrants, who stopped in some kind of shelter or temporary accomadation. I can't remember the details, but it is on one of the three above-mentioned boards. Good Luck !

Hi Anne, there are several sites where you you will probably find more info. Rather than repeat them all here, enter "polish" in the search-box, and browse through the the different boards. Hope this helps. Bob

Anna, If you can apply for his marriage certificate, you will have his parents' names and his original name would be the same as his father. Kathyx

My father was born in Poland and came to England with his brother after the war(probably as a refugee). Does anyone know how I can trace how he would have been able to come here? Also, I believe his name was anglicised. Would I be able to tie up his taken name when arriving in this country, with his original name? Any tips gratefully received. Thanks Anna
