Help!! I have just tried to order a death certificate from GRO website, using info that I got from 1837. The death was from the March quarter of 1906, but they would not accept the order without the date of death- I am pretty sure that the exact date was not given, but like a fool I forgot to save the page. I have previously ordered older certs using the vol/page number, is it because this is post 1900- do the rules change for that? And was I just being blind at not noting the date of death from the details on 1837. or are they not given? |

Ann Very puzzled. I've ordered and received several death certs for the 1900s and had no queries about date of death, just given the GRO reference. Helen |

Helen, there did not even seem to be an option to put the vol/page in, and the date of death had a red star against it denoting a compulsory field. I tried submitting it without the date but it would not accept it!!! |

Dates of death are not given. I was under the impression it was only for a death in the last 50 years that you needed the exact date. How can they expect you to know the exact date of an event from a century ago? |
