I suppose a negative result is better than no result. I have proved that I have the wrong certificate, the wrong parents, I found Joannah (who, incidentally changed her name to hannah) in the 1841/1851 censuses on Dorset-OPC, then I checked and found her on the 1881 as a widow. Oh oh! William was still alive in the 1881 and remarried to mary, and still alive when Henry got married! So, back to the drawing board, just one more henry Riggs birth to send for in 1857. Keep all fingers and toes crossed that Father is a William! Ann Glos

I don't know if this will help, or just confuse further ! On the OPC site for Dorset: http://www.dorset-opc(.)com/ go to "search this site" and enter "riggs" the search engine finds a lot of Riggs (75 documents) ! another search for "woodsford" found 51 documents another search for "joannah" found 23 documents are any of them yours ?? only you can tell ! Good luck !

Hi, I am going around in circles with this one. My Gt grandfather was Henry Riggs born Dorset in 1857, father William. These facts I know. there were several Henry Riggs born Dorset that year, by sending off for three of them but putting father William as a checking point I have found the following: HENRY RIGGS 13.6.1857 Piddletown, father WILLIAM RIGGS Mother JOANNAH RIGGS formerley WOODSFORD. 1871 census HENRY RIGGS is lodging with a master baker as a baker's assistant in Eling Hampshire aged 17 born dorset WILLIAM RIGGS is married to MARY RIGGS and is also living in Eling born Morden Dorset as was Mary. WILLIAM aged 49 and MARY aged 42 This is obviously a second marriage for Mary as she has daughters (2 of them) with the surname Dominy and also a grandaughter of the same name living with them. On 1881 WILLIAM and MARY are still in Hampshire aged 60 and 54 still both given as born in Morden Dorset. HENRY RIGGS is now in the IOW lodging and now a journeyman butcher. From this point I have Henry's life well documented. That is not the problem. From 1837 I have MARY and WILLIAM'S marriage, although I have not yet sent for the certificate. This was in the March quarter 1866. I checked the Dorset burials on familyhistoryonline site and I could not find one for JOANNAH RIGGS. I assume she died then MARY married WILLIAM. I also checked Hampshire burials. Any ideas how I can prove that I have the correct birth certificate for HENRY RIGGS and that JOANNAH was his Mother? All suggestions welcomed. Ann Glos
