Any comments or suggestions please. Seems a bizarre situation. By 1881 she has married a John Pool and her father has died, but can anyone throw any light on this. I have two of the birth certs for Louisa and Emily , no father shown on each and interestingly they share the same birth day 8th Feb. Kim

It is possible but I wouldn't thingk so. If you could look at an ealier census that would help. Is it possible that her father remarried and had some younger children. The fact that there is daughter and Son on all means that he looks on them as his, so which ones seems the most likely question. Irene

Emily and Louisa are definelty Hester's children as I have birth certs. Rueben is shown as a grandson on 1851 . Robert is definitely hester's brother . There other children are too young to be shown on the 1851. John was down as born in Ashton Keynes on the 1851 census at age 56 and Hester age 21. Confused person I am... Why didn't Hester marry the father? unless of course there was more than one .......

Do you know when Hester's mother died? That might clarify things a little. It would not be unknown for the brother to be the father either. Family relationships can be bizarre! From the Cumberland Pacquet, or Ware's Whitehaven Advertiser: 8/12/1774 Chester, Nov. 29. There is a child born in Welch W____e, Lancashire, who, had it four Apples, might give its father one, its grandfather one, its mother one, its sister one, its brother one, its uncle one and reserve one for itself. (Quoted in the Northeasterner)

Reuben's marriage cert has John Weaver as his father, so he could be Hester's true brother. But Louisa and Emily are definitely hers, no father is identified. John was born in Ashton Keynes not Pontypool, his wife died between 1851 census and 1861, haven't got her death cert too many Ann Weavers even in Ashton Keynes. Robert weaver is shown on the 1881 census as a brother in law, to John Bartlett, his sister Elizabeth Weaver, also had two illegitimate children while she was a housekeeper to John Bartlett ,but she eventually married him. I am so confused by all these!! Wish I'd never started on them sometimes!! Kim

I think it means that the child's father and grandfather are one and the same person. likewise its mother and sister (one person), and brother and uncle (one person). Basically the child's father is also father to his mother and uncle, thus making them the child's sister and brother. (i think!)

As (I imagine) a sleepy village near the Thames that floods, small cottages with only a couple of bedrooms, Go upstairs when it floods.... end result.... She did have( or her sister Ann) on the 1851 census two other children (that died , I think)George and Frederick both age 1 . (Maybe her sister and her both slept together in same bed!)Her mother was still alive then in 1851. Don't think there is anyway to find out "exactly" what was going on though...perhaps best not!! Kim
