Mandy You may find it hard with out at rough idea. Freebmd only goes up to 1910, not all are on yet of course. Ancestry do have later ones from 1984 - but the bit between 1910 and 1984 you may have to start looking on 1837 unless someone is in the district and can find the records. Ask your friend to ask all relatives for information no matter how small it will help. Also if you can look at the Elec Rolls (same as now done every year) in the local family records centre. Check every 5 years to see if you can find her, this is what I did for one of mine and it worked. Don't forget that even if they fill in the form for the following year they may have died. Only problem is if they moved from the parish and you don't know where they went. Good Luck Irene

Please could anyone give me some advice on where to find a death (I'm helping my sister-in-law and it's her grandmother). I've looked on Ancestry and LDS using every combination I can think of, but don't have a close enough date to start on 1837. I'm still fairly new to this so might be missing something obvious! Her name is Edith Florence SMITH (sorry!), born 5.12.1904 in Southampton, maiden name Ruddock. Married 18.05.1924 and the last info I have for her is on the birth of her son in 1935 in Southampton. I'd be really grateful if anyone could help. Many thanks, Mandy :)
