Short version: Steve, my brother, gets interested in what I'm doing, sends unsolicited letter to someone in phone book with same name as grandfather. Gets phone call, is given name and phone number of this chap's niece, and passes on to me. When I try (after losing the info in a 'safe' place!) get unobtainable; Steve tries. same result. Gives me original address, I write, said chap phones today with correct number and I contact her. Outcome: she's going to send me all info she has back to Charles b c1790!!! She even told the family explanation of why my grandparents split - granma had a problem with alcohol! I'm chuffed to bits!:-)))))) Jan

Considering when I started in March/April I knew very little about my dad's side of the family, I'm thrilled! As soon as I joined this site I found a second cousin on my granma's side who has helped a lot. It's great to begin to fill in the blanks. Jan

Re original message: I wouldn't like anyone to think the phrase 'I'm chuffed to bits' relates to granma's alleged drink problem!
