Child known as a 'charge'?

Greeting’s Ann. . . . Charge. . . Custody guardianship. Person or thing entrusted to someone’s care. Ward of court In the UK, a child whose guardian is the High Court. Any person may, by issuing proceedings, make the High Court guardian of any child within its jurisdiction. No important step in the child’s life can then be taken without the court’s leave. CHARGE. Ann, I think a 'charge' is a child being taken care of by a gaurdian. I also call the children I look after my 'charges'--I'm a nanny.

I would assume so. In my tree there are several missing children who turned up being looked after permanently by relatives or even neighbours so I suppose this is what happened to the child you have found.

Would a child listed on a census as a 'charge' be similar to a foster child?
