Message from 1837-online : 'A new way of paying with BT click&buy 1837online.com is pleased to announce an alternative payment method for customers who prefer not to use their credit and debit cards on the web. In addition to the fully secure online payment technology that is already on the site, customers can now choose to add their payments to their BT phone bill or by a Direct Debit payment. Called BT click&buy, the system provides Internet users with a fast, simple and secure means of purchasing digital content and services online, and is used by many well-known websites including Genes Connected. There is no fee to pay, and there is no need to be a BT customer. Users simply set up an online account and then can buy from any BT click&buy partner site by entering their unique username and password. Purchases are charged back to their personal account, which they can opt to settle by direct debit or even via their BT phone bill. This means that BT click&buy account holders no longer need to give out their payment details repeatedly across the web.' If I remember correctly I used BT Click & Buy to pay for my subscription to Genesconnected, and it was very simple to use. Looks like all our pressure earlier in the year to introduce an alternative system paid off ! That said, I don't actually want to use 1837-online anymore in any case - not since I discovered that you can search the whole BMD index at my local library for nothing ! Do check that out in your own locality, peeps - silly to pay for something you don't need to ! Simon
