Hi Thought I'd post details of my main brick-walls that are driving me crazy, in case anyone out there has any clues or can offer advice on where to look next : William NOBES (b 1775) : This chap lived in Guist throughout his life (died there in 1850, buried 30.1.1850), but am unsure of his birth details. There is a William Nobes that was born in Gunthorpe (not a million miles from Guist) to a John and Sarah (along with a twin, Hannah) but have been unable to conclusively confirm this. Lydia PHILLIPO (b 1773) : This is the wife of William above, they married in Guist on 20.4.1795. Lydia died in Guist in 1855 (buried 2.3.1855) but I cannot trace her birth/find her parents. In 1851 her birthplace was listed as Stibbard, but there is no trace of a baptism there. William and Lydia's marriage was witnessed by an Ann Phillippo so there may be a connection there. There are lots of Phillippos in the area around this time (Stibbard, Guist, N Elmham, Colkirk, Foulsham) but I'm unable to make any link, or indeed find anything more about Lydia. Mary DAINES (b 1808) : Mary married my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Henry Nobes, in Bintry on 26.9.1828 and she died in Guist in 1850 (buried 20.1.1850), but that's all I know about her. I don't know where she was born; checked Bintry (given that here marriage was there) but can't find a baptism), The surname Daines comes from the birth certificate of one of Henry and Mary's children, but I have also seen it transcribed as Deanes. Keziah FRANCIS (b 1750) : Born and died (1832) in Guist. Was the single-mother of my 5xgr-grandfather, William. Am unable to confirm anything about her parents. There was a Clement and Ann Francis in Guist who had lots of children around this time but cannot find anything to suggest/prove that Keziah was one of them (in fact, why would Clement have all his other children baptised and not Keziah - that would perhaps rule him out). Jane REYNOLDS (b 1871/73) : A particlarly annoying brick wall this one, as 1873 is really pretty recent in genealogical terms. Jane was my gr-gr-grandmother. She married George Quantrill in Wymondham on 18.11.1891. Her marriage cert gives her father as William and her age as 20. The 1901 census age puts her birth at 1873, and lists her birthplace as Caston, while the 1891 census (away from home) gives Wymondham as her place of birth. The main problem here is that I can't find a GRO ref for her birth and, more annoyingly, I can't find her at all on the 1881 census. There are no Jane Reynolds' of the right age either living away from home, or at home with a father called William. Any help/tips/links/suggestions etc very very gratefully received ! Simon
