Can anyone suggest anything that might help me find birth entries in the register. I have 4 people I need to find birth certs for. I know when approx they were born between 1877 and 1887. According to the 1901 census and ww1 records they were born in Manchester. I have looked up all the varients of the spelling and there are no entries at all. Nothing on the IGI and no trace on 1881 and 1891 census. Can anyone suggest where I go next. Thanks

Hi Gillian, Perhaps if you post the names you are looking for someone will come up with some details for you.Quite often the census have been mistranscribed.Forgive me for asking, but have you looked on free BMD for the births? Good luck Janet

I'm not being patronising, but could you have been looking in the wrong parish? County and parish boundaries and registration districts change so it's possible to stumble over the right person and not realise it. The other possibility is that they were not registered at all.

Hi I looked thru the birth registers at the county records office (same registers that are at the main records office in London and on the 1837 site) but couldnt find anyone with the same names in that period that were born anywhere. I will have to presume they werent registered. Thanks.
