There may be someone helpful at the Greek Embassy?

I've thought of all sorts of combinations - none of them seen to make sense - maybe it didn't even sound like Quirie in the first place and Scottish translation created it ! Anyone know of a website that shows Greek names that I might have a go at ? Tried a few but nothing came up. Mary

There is no q in the greek alphabet or w. Could it by X (Chi) which sounds like ch in Christ. I can't think on a combination of letters in Greek that would produce a "qui" sound other than beginning with X. Sorry I can't help more my Greek is limited to biblical translations at Uni so not much help with names other than Jesus John Mark etc!

Mary Not sure if there is a Q in the Greek alphabet. Could have begun Kw or Cw?

I have just discovered that my partners ancesters, surname Quirie and always believed to be from Scotland actually originally camee from a town in Greece and were brought over by the Governor (or some such person)around 1640 as part of their staff. The name was spelt differently but eventually turned into Quirie. Anyone out there have any idea what the name might have originally been ? Don't even know where to beging to look .................very puzzled Monday morning ! Mary
