Do any of you naval buffs out there know the name of the ship(s) that the future King George V served on during his time in the navy prior to becoming heir to the throne?? I have just found out that my ggfather spent 13 years in the navy in the late 1800's and that at some point he served under the future king. Many thanks,

Ian

David The name HMS Bacchante comes to mind. It was a cruiser but I don't remember whether he served on board or was more a passenger. Try a websearch with this name and perhaps you will find out more. Ian

Thanks Ian, I'll check on that. Have already tried the web sites but all they say ishe followed a naval career before becoming heir - no real specifics. David

DAVID I meant do a web search for HMS Bacchante. I just did and there are a few sites. King George V was indeed a crewmember and spent some time aboard, together with his brother Prince Albert Victor. Ian
