Thought I'd finally got some small chink in my brick wall with an age & place of birth for John Thomas PRICE. But when I tried to locate him & his family he didn't appear. Only counties starting with B or C were covered in the census. This has happened on more occasions than I can remember for other surname. Why is that? I thought the site was pretty much complete (give or take mistranscriptions etc!!) Is there another way to get the complete list of ALL counties from the LDS site that I'm missing out on? Would appreciate your vast knowledge.

You must be doing some thing wrong. All counties are covered on the 1881 census. Daft question, how do you 'select' your county. I've found that if you just try to scroll through the list it automatically loads one of the B or C counties. You need to actually click open the county menu and go down through it to the county you want. Does that make sense - I'm not good at writing things down. It does it on the Country menu as well. I keep finding myself 'selecting' Azerbaijan or suchlike. Helen

Zoe, If you go directly to the census page on the LDS site, there is an option to choose the county you are looking for. If you have any problems, let me know what county you are looking for and I,ll have a go for you. Bye the way, there were thousands of "Tom Price's" on the all county list and the LDS will only show you the first 3000 names.

Thanks Helen & Carol Thankfully you can't see the sheepish look I have on my face! I have to say I've only ever selected the country & NEVER specified the county as thought it would give me ALL people of that name. I guess partly because I have a couple of unusual surnames so assumed it wouldn't have too many to show & also had a nasty habit of moving around the place! I'm armed with the correct information & now the LDS site is down-how frustrating is that? Thanks so much Zoe, Wellington, NZ

If you want the whole list you can click on 'next' at the bottom of the list. I think it will go up to 2000 but that would take a long time. Don't worry, I had the same thoughts as you and it was ages before I realised because I was looking for people in Bedfordshire!!! (Always at the top!) Anne
