Hi folks! I have an update to share with you... As you know, I've been searching for the death certificate of my G/G/Grandfather James Wilson. Well, I found his birth certificate! It lists his birth as being on the 16th July 1841 in 14 George Street, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. Sadly, I've still had zero luck on the death certificate, (tried the library, Wirral museum, lots of internet searches like CheshireBMD) Although I did discover he disappears off the Electorial Roll in 1874. The information for the elections was gathered in 1873 for printing in '74 so does this mean he died in '73? I don't know. What I *do* know is that my local (B/Head) register can't find his death and he was born, raised and probably buried here! The trouble I think, is that so much of his area of Birkenhead has radically changed since his time... churches gone, whole streets gone. There's not one address of my ancestors that I've found so far that's still there... they're all businesses now. If anyone can suggest anything new I can try I'd be grateful. ~Ingrid

If you don't want to pay for 1837online (like me!) you can go to your nearest big library or record office where they will have the GRO index to search for free. Anne

Ingrid, Have you looked on 1837online ? It has all BMD's from 1837 to 2001. Failing that, you could ask on the records office board to see if anyone has any 'saved pages' for the person/time your looking. Elaine :-)

Hello peeps! I wonder if you can help me out please? I have a relative, my great, great, grandfather JAMES WILSON (1841 - deceased by 1881.) He lived in 40 George Street, Birkenhead, England at the time of his son (G/Grandfather) William's birth (27/11/1867.) I have this info from William's birth certicate. I'm wanting to find out when he died, and more importantly, *how*, as he seems to have died young, before the age of 40 if I've done my sums right. I've looked on freeBMD*com and on cheshirebmd*org*uk but no likely candidates have emerged. I've been searching on Cheshire, but I'm assuming he died in Birkenhead since, so far, all this side of my family have been born, raised and have died there. Glad *I* moved! LOL! But seriously, any suggestions on how to find details/documents on James' death please? I'd be pathetically grateful! ~Ingrid.
