Although there have been previous threads about this,I must confess that having no children liable to use this Computer,I did not take too much notice at the time,I am being constantly bombarded with shall we say, "sexually orientated spam".It is a downright nuisance, and they are becoming increasingly innovative in their methods.Although I suspect that they originate from the same site, they appear as if they were from different individuals. How can I set my "Message Rules" to get rid of these messages? Regards William Russell Jones Cefn Mawr Wrexham.

In Outlook Express, first click on the message, then click on MESSAGE on the toolbar, and choose BLOCK SENDER from the menu. The trouble is there are so many of the bilghters!!!

I do the same thing as the previous reply. I read that they get your e-mail number from legitimate web-sites and I have left mine in a few places for family trees so that relatives can contact me. I have a three year old son who knows how to get into the mail and is learning to read. So because of these 'sick' people I may have to remove all of my trees soon. Angela

Angela - don't know how (!) but my husband has set up separate log-ins for all of us. You can make yours password protected so your son can't access it. Have a look at your library and you will find some easy books on Parental Controls for the computer. Maz. XX

William, Also if you go into Outlook, 'messages', 'create message rules', you can then type, either for subject heading or content of message, all the words you don't want to see. This will stop them coming through. But you have to put in all the variations of the word, like maybe the 1st letter a capital, but you would have to put it in again with the 1st letter lower case. Hope I have explained this ok, if not email me and I will try to help. Kim

If you have a h0tmail account, set it to the highest level of security. This will mean only those email addresses in your contacts will get into your inbox. Of course, no-one from this site would be able to contact you but you could set up another account especially for here. I have to admit that I get no spam for my second h0tmail account, even without junk mail filters, because I don't post the address anywhere and it is so unusual that spammers are unlikely to guess it.

Rather than set up different logon profiles for your PC, if you are using Outlook Express you can create different 'accounts' for each person who uses the computer... Fir step by step instructions, when in Outlook Express click on Help and then on the index tab, type identities. Quite easy to do, then as an earlier respodent said, passwrod protect the account with the spam. It's also worthwhile searching on google for two programmes - spybot and adaware. These will check your system for nasty spyware and adware programmes that hijack your browser and other bits, which can result in all sorts of nasty pop up windows appearing.

Thank you Jan for explaining how to BLOCK SENDER, didn't know I could do that! We do have all our spam go into a junk file, but get sick of deleting them, will try this way instead. Maggy

I use hotmail and have my filter set at the highest setting. Unlike Kate, I find that any contacts from Genesconnected (and anyone else who is sending me an email for the first time and is not listed in my known contacts) goes into a 'junk file' that I can check and then just pick out anything that I think I don't want there. The 'junk' is automatically cleared by hotmail when something has been there 7 days, so I just make sure to check it regularly. I do it every day, but you could do it less regularly than that. I don't miss anything that way and none of the nasty stuff goes into my inbox. I don't know if I have a newer version of hotmail than Kate does, but that's how it works for me.

I hadn't thought of that, Felicity. Once I got 126 junk emails in one day and ever since then I have my junk mail set to empty immediately.
