They will search for you, but there may be a fee. I'd ring them and find out - don't let distance stop you! Conversely, you could put a request for someone to look on your behalf - you have a fairly good idea of the date. Unless you now suspect they were only pretending to be married...

John and Mary are on the 1851,61,&71 census as Jepps. I live to far away to get to an essex registar office so if I can't find the date of the marrriage I guess I'm stuck.

Hallo Lesley I've just had a quick look on FreeBMD and the IGI and can't find the marriage. I don't know what the Haverhill family history site is, but if you feel certain the wedding took place in Essex, I would suggest you contact the local register office and ask them. Local register offices charge £7 for a cert, but they only need names and date to find the event. If you have an idea which church you could look at the parish registers at the records office - I think Essex has 3 at Chelmsford, Colchester and Southend. You could see if John and Mary are together on the 1841 census - this might confirm names. It's also possible that the marriage was recorded in January 1840?

From the Haverhill family history sight I got the following info Gipps John married seeley Mary 22nov 1839. This couple had a son named john Jepps my grt grandfather so I assumed that who ever transcribed the marriage details just got the name wrong. However I have just been on 1837 on line and there is no marriage in nov 1839 for Gipps Jepps Or seeley. I really need this marriage certificate to be able to get parents of John and Mary so I can continue with my search. Has anyone any ideas.
