Could anyone tell me when Chapel Street in East Finchley disappeared? Or better still, Bedford Cottages. I have searched and searched, but can't find where it was. All I know is that it was near the Market Place, and is no longer there. Some ancestors of mine lived there on a few censuses. Any information at all would be a great help. Thankyou so much Lisa xx |

Lisa I'm not sure if you'll find it on the Victorian A-Z street guide, but it's worth a try http://www.gendocs.demon.*co.uk/lon-str.html#HOME Christine |

http://www.the-archer(.)co.uk/history/what'sinname.html Excerpt: 'The centre of population shifted eastward as Finchley Common was built over to form Chapel Street (disappeared), ' http://myweb.tiscali(.)co.uk/tonylondon/pages/locintro.htm Has similar article with a note next to Chapel St - 'Cottages in Long Lane (western side, the eastern is yet later) , Trinity and Manor Park Roads were built at the same time as the track and were very much part of the same development.' |

Thanks Hilary for replying. I have read it though, and it doesn't tell you when it disappeared, or what it turned into, what is on that spot now. I was hoping to find it on an old map, but no luck so far. Thanks again Lisa xx |
