I am searching for Robert Arthur Thomas b1897. I have his marriage certificate and I have seen his gravestone, it's just his early life eluding me. The problem is not that I can't find any but that Robert Thomases born in 1897 are absolutely everywhere. I have no idea where he was born, just that his father was Robert John Thomas and his mum was Mary, nee Allison. I've checked on 1901 to no avail, but I might not know the right entry even when I find it. Robert Jr served in WW1 but I have no idea which regiment or what his service number is. Can anyone, anywhere, help me please?

Where was he buried? Where did he get married? Where was his wife born? These might be clues about the area he came from. Did he have any siblings with more unusual names? Have you found his parents together on 1891 census? Helen

He married and died in Lincolnshire, where his wife was born. I have her family back to the parish records stage. I haven't found his parents on 1891 because I don't know where in the country they were living or even if they were married at that time. Robert Thomas senior was originally from Wales but I don't know his date of birth or when he crossed into England.

Robert Thomas senior would probably have come to England a) if his father found work there & whole family moved b) if he moved to find work This doesn't get us much nearer. I've checked FreeBMD for Robert Arthur, but there are no births listed between Dec 1896 and Mar 1897 for that name in Lincolnshire. Don't give up. Have a break and come back and look with a fresh eye.
