Hi I have found her, Her mothers name was Emily - she married a Francis Crockett in 1871, I don't know if he is the father or not, but she didn't put him on marriage cert. Emily is listed in 1881 census as age 20 with children from the age of 10 yrs. She started early didn't she. another mistake. Many thanks Patricia

Hi I recently received my g grandparents' marriage cert and NEITHER of their father's names are given. They were Harry Parker aged 24 and Ellen Akister aged 27, married in 1880 in Lindale in Cartmel. Just to complicate matters even further, Ellen's birthplace is listed as Scotland on both the 1891 and 1901 censuses, but in 1881 the entry says Lindal in Cartmel. There were a lot of Akisters in that area.... Pat Train

Yes, I would think she was either born illegitimate whichis why its not shown or she did not know who her father was....But having said that- I have a case of a woman born two months before her parents wed and she was brought up by her father but he is not shown on her marriage cert .She uses her mother's maiden name when she marries which is what is on the birth certificate.(Her middle name is in fact her father's surname) On 2 census she uses her father's surname (I suppose he gave the details to the enumerator. ) When she goes into service in 1901 census she uses her mother's maiden name again. So you need to check the census, because you may find the father.... KIM
