Jeanette, there is an Eston near Middlesbrough, so it is not that far from Guisbrough. Some of my family came from there. It used to be North Yorkshire, but I think that it is now Redcar and Cleveland. Didn't see the reply from Stan, sorry!! Maggy

Eston is about 4 miles from Guisborough, and was in the Guisborough Registration District from 1837 to 1875, when it became part of the new Middlesbrough District. Stan

Thanks for your replies folks! Perhaps they knew they would be moving to Flixton then and waited until they got there as that's were the fathers family all lived. Jeanette

Yes it would - my grandmother was born in 1904 and - despite having a very devout mother - can remember her own christening when she was about four. The family all walked to the nearest village and she and some of her brothers were christened on the same day:) David

Lots of Astons there are. (It's a corruption of Eastern) go here and search: http://www.any-village.*co.uk/map.asp

Is it possible the eldest died and their next child was given his desceased siblings name. I have several instances of this in my own family tree. It may pay to check for deaths and subsequent births in the interim period. Penny

I have an instance of 5 siblings being baptised together (eldest 14). Another lot seemed to have 2 kids baptised together every 3 years.

An ancestor of mine married in 1872 and the marriage was registered in the district of Guisborough. They had a son in 1872 (ooops!) who was also registered in the Guisborough district. I found the childs christening in the parish records for Folkton/Flixton on 23.08.1873 - Scarborough district - where they lived for a few years and had 2 more children. Would they have waited nearly a year before having the child christened? Also on 2 censuses it says he was born in Aston or Eston. Where is this please? Jeanette
