No idea how transcriptios are issued, I get them all over the place, not issued in any sensible order as far as i can see. Val

Terri You have my sympathy! I can't find Joseph's birth anywhere - he doesn't seem have existed prior to his marriage. And I only know about William because of his name appearing of Joseph's marriage certificate. Am having trouble tracking him down on any censuses(?) there are a couple of possibles but I'm not which one, if either, are him... These Duttons are an elusive lot!!

There are over 700 Dutton births in London between 1837 and 1910 listed on FreeBMD. Although early censuses refer to London as being in Middlesex, Surrey etc the London registration districts are listed under the London heading not Middlesex.

Hi When FreeBMD asked for transcribers I think I read that you can request specific surnames to enter, maybe even dates too, so I'm not sure if you could request Dutton deaths for instance. Click on "info" at the end of one of the entries, sometimes the transcriber can be contacted, maybe they could shed some light on this. There a entries dotted all over the place, even the 60's 70's & 80's. I entered the christian name JODIE to see how early that is mentioned, I was surprised to see entries for '77 '78 '80 '81 & '82.

I've done some transcribing for freeBMD and know that the data being transcribed is of a particular type (ie. births, deaths or marriages) and alphabetical by date. It isn't geographic. I'm therefore confused about some of the entries... I've spent months searching for the birth of my great grandfather and great great grandfather. All I know is their names: Joseph DUTTON (born c.1856 in London, Middlesex) and William DUTTON (born c. 1832 – no idea where but I assume either Middlesex or Kent). Having searched for ‘All Types’ of DUTTON, in Middlesex on freeBMD there are only 3 births listed, 0 marriages – but 38 deaths! Does this just mean that only a few of the ‘D’ births and marriages have been transcribed? I’m not sure how they allocate the work out to the syndicates, but this seems a bit odd to me. Am I missing something obvious?
