Thanks Gwynne and Shirley, I have used 1837 to check records (must be one of their best customers!!!!) I did not realise that you could get a researcher to check the records for you at Kew, it would be worth looking in to as this is my paternal line and the reason I started researching my tree in the first place. I had found Charles Percival Gray born Shoreditch, he seemed to fit except the only Sarah on the same page for marriage was Price, on my GGrandads birth cert his mother is listed as 'formally Rhodes'. I have also found Percival Charles Gray christened 1855 in sussex on LDS but then he seems to disappear. Also a Percy Gray at Sandhurst on 1871 aged 15 (could possibly be the same one as above). I am so desperate to get further on this branch but just dont know where to turn next. Sue:-)

Hi, If you can only search on line I think you're not going to get any further with him. Have you looked at the full GRO index on 1837online or only on freebmd? His military records will be at The National Archives in Kew but you can only view them by visiting yourself or hiring a researcher to look for you. They will probably give you a place of birth which may make the search for his birth cert easier. Gwynne

I am searching for Percival Charles Gray/Grey, all I know is that in Sept 1881 he was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers, I have no idea as to where he was based (his son was born Islington but they were not there on 1881 census). By 1902 according to sons marriage cert father was deceased and occupation was traveller. The only other thing I know is that his wife (according to sons birth cert) was Sarah formally Rhodes. I have tried marriages and deaths for Grey and Gray with no luck. The only one I can find on any census is the son on 1901 as a lodger. I cannot get to any records offices or librarys so everything has to be done online. Can anyone please suggest where to go next (apart from round the bend!) Sue:-)
