Is the searchable coverage for the 1861 Census a bit patchy? Or am I just unlucky in not getting a reply for an 1861 Census lookup? Ian

Hello Ian, The only full censuses available online are the 1881 via LDS, the 1891 on Ancestry and the 1901 (PRO). The rest are available as individual counties and have only area and street indexes so lookups are much more difficult to do. There is some of the 1861 on FreeCEN but it is very patchy. If you need an 1861 lookup, be as specific as you can with the town or parish. If somebody has the census for that county, they will than be more likely to do the lookup for you. All the best Russell
