Hi Dave I too think it would have been HM Dockyard (Chatham) and my dad says that Fitter is/was a popular dockyard trade. Mandy :)

Hard to decipher but it looks like Fitter HurDockifart - that was written as one word. The area was Chattham/Gillingham so it could be the name of a dock? Has anyone any ideas? Dave
