many many thanks Sam. I have looked at the "13" Johns, and to be honest, nothing is jumping up and biting me!! I have done loads on the Greatrix side (all except their own marriage certificate would you believe!) Thats why I started on his side now. Once again, cheers Sam. Its nice to know that there is help out there when I feel like banging my head against a brick wall. Regards Michelle

There were 13 seven year old's Michelle Taylor, Jno 7 Rowley Regis, Staffordshire Son Rowley Regis Staffordshire Taylor, Jno T 7 Newcastle, Staffordshire Son Wolstanton Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Darlaston, Staffordshire Son Darlaston Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Brownhills, Staffordshire Son Ogley Hay Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Stafford, Staffordshire Inmate St Mary and St Chad Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Sneyd green, Staffordshire Son Stoke upon Trent Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Walsall, Staffordshire Son Walsall Foreign Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 West Bromwich, Staffordshire Son West Bromwich Staffordshire Taylor, John 7 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire Son Wolverhampton Staffordshire Taylor, John B 7 Hanley, Staffordshire Son Stoke upon Trent Staffordshire Taylor, John Henry 7 Eccleshall, Staffordshire Son Eccleshall Staffordshire Taylor, John Tom 7 Audley, Staffordshire Son Audley Staffordshire Taylor, John W 7 Bromley, Staffordshire Son Kingswinford Staffordshire So rather hit & miss, unless any look particularly promising, if so I'll check them out for you, let me know. Failing this.... your next move would have to be http://www.1837online(.)com, *Remove brackets As there are tons of Taylors, and even though the birth would almost definitely be in the Sept quarter of 1883, I doubt he would be the only John Taylor. I think I would look for the marriage to Emily, she has a more unusual surname, Greatrix, they married in May so you would probably find the registration in the June quarter of 1907, it should give her full name & his surname as a cross-reference (assuming the info from IGI is correct, but it is all you have to go on, so you have no choice really) I don't know if you've used the site before, you need to by credits for this. then you could order the marriage certificate using the Vol No & Page the 1837 will have listed, this will cost £7, then you will have John's father at least. On rare occassions marriage cert's do not have the father's details, finger's crossed this doesn't happen to you. Let me know if you'd like more info on any of the above "John Taylors" Good luck Sam

I'll just have a look for him on the 1891 census, he would be 7yrs of age very possibly in Stafford, I bet there are lots of Taylors though, as you've found out. Back in a mo

WOW! The name of you thread change before my eyes.....LOL! Why no luck on IGI? Is he not either of these two? John <Taylor> Male Event: Birth: Christening: 18 NOV 1883 Ettingshall, Stafford, England Parents: Father: William Taylor Mother: Martha ____________________________________ John Taylor Male Event(s): Birth: 25 AUG 1883 , Stafford, England Christening: Death: 18 APR 1953 Marriages: Spouse: Emily Ellen Greatrix Family Marriage: 20 MAY 1907 Uttoxeter, Stafford, England ______________________________________________ Failing that, how have you learned of the info you do actually have? Can anyone please help me?? I have been looking for the parents of John Taylor (b1883 Stafford). I have had no luck with the IGIs and there are far too many returns with the freebmd search. Without a volume page and number, how can i order his birth certificate? Would be grateful if any of you can point me in the right direction.
