does anyone think it's possible that someone could've been recorded on a census twice?! i have a great great uncle who, in 1891, seems to appear twice! there are 2 Walter Savill's, age 21, born in Epping both Railway Labourers/platelayers. One lives with his parents in Copthall Green, Waltham Abbey, Essex, the other lives with an uncle in Stratford. the uncle, Charles Savill, is the brother of the "other" Walter Savill's dad, John. I realise it's not unlikely that there could be two cousin's named Walter born around the same time, but there only appears to be one in 1881 & 1901, yet their are 2 in 1891, and I can't see where the other one has come from at the moment. Hi Stewart, i have had the same thing, i think what happened is the child was staying away from home maybe with rellies,so he would be recorded there, at the same time the parent's recorded him as being at home because he was their son. Doe's that make any sense???? Shan

I have one person who definately appears in two places in a census, and another possible. Don't think it should happen, but it clearly can.

A sister of my grandfather appears twice on 1901, once with her family and once as a visitor somewhere else.

I also have at least two people appearing twice. It seems to be for the same reason each time ie. they were recorded at home (where they usually live) by their family and also with whoever they were visiting at the time. Anne
