Terri The only silly question is the one that isn't asked. I've been properly researching my family for about 2 years now, and I am learning things all the time. It's just that when people ask for info it helps if they give some idea of what they already know. Don't worry about being daft - we all have senior moments/blonde moments/total meltdown now and then. Tolerance and patience are necessary requirements for being a family historian. We all help eachother when we can and most of us remember to say please and thank you! Please ask away. Think about the opportunities for others to show off their knowledge that are being wasted by not asking! Not to mention that the answer might be sitting on someone's computer desk! Happy hunting helen

Terri, No question is stupid if it puzzles you and hinders your research. Believe me every question you ask we have all asked it at some stage. Don't sit and puzzle over things, ask away, and, yes we are Ok with all the questions, we have had so much help it is our way of paying back. What some people do get irritated by is when (and I haven't noticed it recently) the same people keep asking for free look ups from sites that are pay to view and also don't offer their help. it is reciprocal site, we help each other. So ask away!!! Ann Glos

I'll tell you something Terri, I really don't like to see people ask something and then apologise for being "silly/thick/stupid" there is no such thing as a silly question honestly, we were all "wet behind the ears" once. I have never read a question and thought "how silly" On sites like this, the person that helps you is not usually the person you then go on to help (if that makes sense) it's like the film PAY IT FORWARD, you then go on to help others because of what you've learned. Ask away, I am by no means an expert, but I love to help out if I can Sam

I agree, it would save having to question the member who posts the request if we had all the info that they do, I know sometimes easier said than done, we all forget bits, as Ann said, in the heat of the moment. As much info on names, dates areas, spelling variations, it all helps. Sam

Ann Yes, and please give full names and dates and places you know. If you aren't sure of something you can always put ?

You are not alone. I know what it is, in the heat of the moment, and the excitement of asking for help, what is already known gets forgotten. don't worry about it, not a criticism but advice on how to get better help. ann Glos

Just a tip and not getting at anyone in particular. Could I please ask that when anyone puts a request for help in finding information on the board, they add any that they have already found. it can be very timewasting to do a search for info on the web and come up with a reply to be told 'Oh yes i have already found that. I think what I am asking for is clarity in requests and giving the full picture. That way more people will be able to be helped. Ann Glos
