Can anyone tell me what to do? Although I use free AVG antivirus and keep it on and up to date I've somehow picked up Netsky Q virus. (I have not opened anything) It's on my C drive and it has not been removed/healed/quarentined by AVG. How do I get rid of it please? I am rather thick so plain English please. Please help me Viv. Update: I'm Clean! (I've also had a shower!!! LOL)

Symantec have a tool to remove it, had to use one of their removal tools before and they are very good, you can find it here, http://securityresponse.symantec(.)com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

viv this happened to me a few months back i have now bought antivurus software. however listen very carefully i will say this only once. you first need to ensure windows has the latest security patches to help protect you from viruses. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download the relevant security patches. do this monthly. if u are using windows millennium or windows xp it is advisable to disable the 'system restore' (u will find this in the control panel' next step is to complete an online virus scan at http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/housecall_pre.php if a virus is detected you may click on the name of the virus to learn more about it. theres options to delete the infected file or clean the virus. you may now enable system restore once this is done. i do hope this sorts you out it worked for me a treat brenda x

if you have . c o m or . c o then put (.)com or (.)co !! GC doesn't like web addresses, so we have to kid it a bit ! Try: http://uk.trendmicro-europe(.)com and remove () when using ! it's annoying but at least it works !

Brenda Report 4 Jun 2004 14:43

Hi all, I did the one Tammie recomended- Symantec Netsky Fixit Tool. Said I wasn't infected (twice). Ran AVG said I was still infected. What now chaps? Do I try the one Brenda recomends? Viv.

Just wanted to add that I did turn the System Restore off before I did it (running ME) and after running tool twice switched back on. I followed the instructions to the letter as well so I know everything was done correctly. Viv.

dont forget when running the search you will be out of action for some time while it completes all the necessary checks. as i said i found housecall to be really effective at clearing out bugs but you do need to install antivirus. brenda x

Brenda, My antivirus AVG has been brilliant so far and picked things up really quickly and sorted them out. Don't know how this one slipped through. I will give your site a try later on and see what they come up with. Thanks for all your help Viv.
