Good advice, can't be repeated too often. An automatic daily update is essential, OK you'll probably have to pay for it but it's far cheaper than a trip to the repair shop and less hassle than replacing all your data. I got nine infected e-mails overnight, cleaned on the way in. Senders addresses included the Home Office and Energywatch. The addresses may have been spoofed, but if not there is no excuse for government departments and national organisations not to have anti-virus installed.

I work p/t as an administrator for a charity, and we have email access - in the last 2 weeks our virus-checker has automatically deleted at least 20 infected messages! Just to remind everyone that if you use the internet, please please ensure you have a decent virus checker, and that you keep it up to date. There are a number of freely available checkers (eg AVG from Grisoft) and all the decent ones have the facility to regularly update file patterns and known virus lists. If you are not sure what to do, post a message....there are plenty of people on here both able and willing to offer help and advice, and after the hours we all put in doing our research the last thing anyone wants is to lose it all because of virus attacks. Similarly, the safest thing is to NEVER open an attachment unless you are positive you know where it is from, and that it is safe...if you are certain it's something you want to open, scan it first to be sure! Sorry if I'm teaching some people to suck eggs here, but just wanted to remind everyone :o) Sarah
